Is Your Child a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

Is Your Child a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

At Bravo, as a grassroots sports academy, we are acutely aware of ensuring the holistic development of our children. Yeah, winning football matches, medals and trophies is great. But it’s really no good if the children are not learning the value of discipline, self-control, resilience, teamwork and so much more. One such lesson we stumbled across recently was understanding whether we are thermometers or thermostats. Sounds strange, but it’s an idea worth thinking about and sharing.

Thermometers vs Thermostats

According to renowned spiritual speaker Rabbi Shais Taub, there are two types of people in the world – thermometer people and thermostat people. So who is what? Let’s try and understand. A thermometer tells you the temperature in the room whereas a thermostat tells the room the temperature.

Thermometer People

Thermometer people react to the way the environment is treating them. As a result, the emotional and mental state of thermometer folk will be a direct reflection of everything that’s coming at them from the outside. Thermometer people doom themselves to be reactive victims of circumstance and surrender their power to factors around them that are out of their control. As a result, people like this get affected and disturbed too easily by how situations treat them. In other words, their temperature depends on external factors – like thermometers.

Thermostat People

Thermostat people can adjust their internal controls to a setting of their choice. They operate from a feeling of empowerment. That’s because thermostat people can decide, whatever the circumstances may be, to be productive, grateful and of service to people around. When they operate from this domain of empowerment and gratitude, they emanate that positive energy out to the environment around them. In other words, they dictate the temperature of the environment around – like thermostats.

At Bravo, our focus is on developing thermostat people. Children who will be able to face wins and losses, success and failure, love and rejection, happiness and sadness with composure, poise and grace. If you would like to help your child become a thermostat person and enjoy football too, call us on 9819337766 or 9819227766.
